“Shifts / Verschiebungen. A conversation between Ema Ograjenšek and Nicole Prutsch”, in: Nicole Prutsch, 2020, Beyond the Measuring Principle, Berlin: Distanz Verlag

A written exchange with the artist on the principles of their artistic production and approach, touching on the topics of scientific objectivity, anthropological measurement, power, deconstruction and the use archival imagery.

“The cuts and shifts in the portraits set the scene for a stubborn slippage. The anthropological photo series, an optical tool of measurement and judgement intended to produce a methodical typology of human features, is marked by a disturbance, a cut by the artist, which captures the viewer’s eye, leading one to repeat the very comparative gesture that constructs a working typology, now measuring the primary measuring act of the anthropologist.“
